On a daytrip to ny yesterday, i did some shopping. I went into Space Mercer with two effortlessly hip ladies. One of them pointed out a burfitt tshirt...which i had previously been ignorant of. i fell in love. im a sucker for contour line drawings. sucker. Today i was doing a little googling and found her illustrations and they're beautiful. Her line quality is so nice.
as i was doing my usual perusing of style.com i was checking out the men's section and i noticed the work of this egyptian artist (residing in nyc) ghada amer. i really like her great use of contour lines and colours.

she is my favorite model these days. her face is a bit strange but there is something really beautiful about it.
this photo does not do the shape nor colour justice. and because my mother told me it "probably looks better in person(which is however very true), I made this little collage of it.
the colors are funky because the lighting in our house is rather lackluster.
i did all of the stitching of the lines myself, and the pocket is in the circle seam on the sides.

so i went to the troc this evening to check out the juan maclean as well as lcd soundsystem. it was a pretty sweet show. i'd have like to have seen them both in a club type setting. my brother bought the juan maclean cd at the merch table, and there was no cd in it when we went to play it in the car. that's a downer. right before juan maclean came on they were playing mandarine girl by booka shade. that was a pleasant surprise. it was interesting having heard their studio albums and then seeing them live. i wasn't extremely excited to see lcd soundsystem but they were definitely better than i had expected them to be. james murphy has a great voice. it all reminded me of when clark and i were in colette and had to ask the dude what they were playing because it was ridiculous. it was friend for a night by booka shade. the cool looking french dude who worked there was asking us what we liked and we said kind of funky house, and he saying how booka shade was darker. i like that about them...the dark bass lines. it's some of my favorite shit.

tribulations-lcd soundsystem
so i never was a big madonna fan...however, after hearing "confessions on a dance floor" i am digging her new sound. it's disco meets electronic. pop is really headed (already there?) in a very electronic direction.

so i went to see feist and broken social scene this evening. i hadn't really listened to broken social scene before, but i suppose i had heard some relatively good things. it is always interesting seeing a band whose music you've never listened to much before. feist was really good live. her live performance was definitely a bit different, perhaps more rocky, less produced, raw sounding. in a good, real/natural kind of way. broken social scene was pretty cool. i can't quite put my finger on who they remind me of. anyway, i enjoyed them. they had a bunch of people up on stage, 12 was the most at one time i do believe. feist did a few numbers with them. the bassist professed his love for philadelphia sports teams over the years, flyers, sixers, eagles, phillies,etc. For having just played 6 shows they put on a pretty long show. the crowd was kind of odd. seemed like a good amount of younger people. perhaps it just seemed that way cause the older peeps hang out at the bar. anywho.
feist's voice is definitely refreshing for lack of a better word. i think her voice is how i like women's voices, kind of airy yet still has a good amount of substance to it. if that makes any sense. i think her latest cd consisted of all covers. i enjoy it though. i read an article where she said she didn't feel like she had to prove her self musically this time through.
anywho. a good time had by all.
last evening i went to see beck with the usual company at the tweeter center in the lovely city of camden, nj. i thoroughly enjoyed the show. it was more funky/electronicy than i expected and that was a nice surprise. the dj bunzo(sp?) from japan did neat visuals on the screens. beck has an eclectic mix of sounds. i dig it. beck also did a cover of do you realize, which was again a pleasant surprise for me.
